Prescribing Information Dosage: Caps/Syp:Adt;250mg-1gm six hourly.Children:125-250mg six hourly Precautions: Hepatic impairment (monitor hepatic funcation, pregnancy. Do not dilute syp below halfstrenght. History of allergy; renal impairment; erythematous rashes common in patients; erythematous rashes common in glandular fever, cytomegalovirus infection, and acute or chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Streptococcal infection; therapr must be sufficient to eliminates the organism (a minimum of ten days) Otherwise the sequelae of streptococcal disease (endocarditis, rheumatic fever) may occur. Avoid small ineffective doses of penicillin as resistant organisma are more likerly to emerge. Serious and occasionally fatal immediate hypersensitivity (anaphylactoid) reactions have been reported AdverseEffects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes (discontinue treatment), Rarely antibiotic-associated colitis. Hypersensittivity reactions including urticaria, fever, joint pains, angioedema, anaphylaxis, serum sickness-like reactions, haemolytic anaemia and interstital nephritis (e.g. oligouria, hematuria), neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorders and CNS toxicity including convulsions Indication: Respiratory, ENT and softtissue infection. Prescribing Information Dosage: Tabs:Adt:250-750mg twice daily usually for 5-10 days (3 days in acute cystitis). Gonorrhoea, single dose of 250mg. Prophylaxis single 750mg dose 60-90 minutes pre-op. Children:Only where benefit exceeds risk, 7.5-15mg/kg daily in two divided doses Precautions: Epilepsy, history of CNS disorders. Severe renal impairment; reduce dose by half. Rarely, vasculitis, pseudomenbranous colitis, haemorrhagic bullae, stevens-Johnson and lyells syndrome, visual disturbances, transient hearing loss, tenosynovitis (discontinue treatment and rest limb), impaired taste and smell, tachycardia Indication: UTI, respiratory, ENT, eye, skin and soft tissue, bone, joint, pelvic, biliary tract, intrabdominal and Gl infections. Gonorrhoea. Severe systemic infection. Gram-negative pneumonia (not for first the treatment in pneumococcal pneumonia). Prophylaxis in upper Gl surgery or endoscopy ContraIndication: Children and growing adolescents except where benefit exceed risks. Pregnancy and lactation.
