Dosage:
Average daily dose: 2 x 200 mg upto 400 mg can be given as a single dose in the morning. In severe infections or infections with complicating factors the dosage may be increased in individual cases to 800 mg daily (2 divided doses). In patients with impaired renal function the initial dose is the same as for patients with normal renal function. In patients undergoing haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis maintenance dose of 100 mg every 24 hours may be given. The duration of treatment should not exceed 2 months.
Recommended dose for prevention of infections in patients with a significant
reduction of resistance to infections is 400-600 mg daily.

Precautions: Hepatic impairment (monitor hepatic funcation, pregnancy. Do not dilute syp below halfstrenght. Generic Ranitidine is used in preventing and relieving the symptoms of heartburn, which are associated with acid indigestion and upset stomach. Ranitidine functions through decreasing the formulation of acid formed in the stomach.

Available in effervescent tablet and syrup form, ranitidine can be taken orally. Usually taken once or 2 to 4 times in a day. If for preventing symptoms, it is to be taken an hour before intake of food.
